    A few news from Mysterium, which will be held in Washington, D.C. on July 16–18:

    • To help with the uncertainty brought by COVID-19, cancellation policy for registration refunds has been shortened to 45 days.
    • The Triumvirate have put together a brief survey to gauge how people are feeling about this year’s convention; the deadline is April 4.
    • They are still accepting submissions for events (through May 31), activity book pages (through April 25), and the writing and artwork table (through July 1) for this year’s convention.

    A few news from Cyan:

    • In 2019, application requirement changes for macOS Catalina (and all subsequent macOS releases, including Big Sur) caused Myst IV, Myst V, and Uru: CC to stop launching. Cyan is still working with Codeweavers to make the games run on these versions again and will update everyone about the completed fix as soon as it is available.
    • Strange Seeds, Unwritten’s live stream, this month is moved to Saturday 10, 14:00 KIT.
    • On April 1st they announced a revolutionary, never-before seen VR gaming experience called … Myst Sayber!

    • A short story about Crowbox was released on Cyan’s website.
    • Registration for Mysterium 2021 is now live! If you purchased a Mysterium 2020 registration and elected to roll it over to 2021, you do not need an additional registration. Given the COVID-19 situation, proof of vaccination or a negative test may be required to attend.
    • Myst for Oculus Quest platform has officially gone gold! It will be released on December 10. Upload has recently published an interview with Rand Miller.
    • For Black Friday, Cyan’s newsletter has announced a special discount on the store. It is highly recommended to order early if you have holiday deadlines in mind. The discount will go live on Friday and last until Cyber Monday. By popular demand, the mousepads are back!

    • Virtual Mysterium will start a few hours from the time of this post! New guests have been announced (Russell Brower had to decline), and the schedule has been released (blue events are streamed on both Twitch & YouTube; red events only on Youtube; green events are discussion rooms on Zoom).     • Jack Wall, in collaboration with Tim Larkin and Cyan, has re-released the soundtracks from Myst III, Myst IV, Uru, and Myst V through his record label. They are available for purchase digitally from iTunes, Amazon, and Google, and can be streamed on various services worldwide.
    • A live Q&A was hosted by Philip Shane (The Myst Documentary) with Myst and Riven co-creator Robyn Miller.
    • About three hours before the Opening event, at 15:00 KIT, Korov’ev will host an Uru Installfest on Zoom, demonstrating how to install Uru Live and the various shards.

    • The Kickstarter for the Myst Documentary directed by Philip Shane has started! It will end on August 13 at 15:25 KIT, and has a goal of $200,000.
    • A new round of special guests have been announced for Mysterium 2020: Stephan Martinière, Mike “RIUM+” Ando, Geneviève Lord, Rand Miller, Philip Shane.
    • More events have been announced for Mysterium 2020: What Would Atrus Build, the “Praise Gehn” sing-along, topics for Virtual Social rooms, and deadlines.
    • Numinous Games, the developers of Area Man Lives – Cyan’s latest Venture – launched the Playability Initiative: “Using Gaming to Celebrate Creativity, Nurture Togetherness, and Activate Empathy, in service to the Spinal Muscular Atrophy Community and Beyond”.
    • Karl Johnson, Senior Software Engineer at Cyan, Inc., wrote a post about keeping the user comfortable in a VR environment.

    • Registration for virtual Mysterium is now open! The special guests from last year will all be back – Russell Brower, Chuck Carter, Tim Larkin, Marty O’Donnell, Katie Postma, and Jack Wall – and even more will be announced soon.
    • Samjay has released her third Age: Tovaht! Currently it is only available for download offline, but will be uploaded to Deep Island as soon as possible.
    • CrimockLyte released a video about D’ni lore, the first of a planned series.
    • KatelysTV released a video about Myst ME as the first episode of their series Game-Dev Perspective.
    • Corvus released a second video made in Dreams (Media Molecule), this time a recreation of Myst itself.
    • In case you missed it, Lore Together by Mystic and Sapphy is a podcast about the lore of various games, including Myst.

    • The gaming channel Just Add Monsters recently interviewed Rand Miller and Neal Lorenza about the Switch port of realMyst.
    • The Myst Documentary crew has launched a new interactive website and a mailing list. The director, Philip Shane, will once again make a presentation at the virtual Mysterium.
    • On June 25 at 5:30 pm PDT, Cyan will host their first Unwritten Livestream, on their Twitch channel.
    • There are quite a few updates on the Mysterium convention front:
      • Mysterium 2021 will be held on July 16–18, at the Westin Alexandria Old Town hotel in Alexandria, VA, at a rate of $100/night.
      • The hotel will be cancelling the 2020 bookings in the next couple weeks, so those who reserved a room should not need to do anything.
      • If you purchased a registration, you will have the option of rolling it over to 2021, or request a refund.
      • There is still time to submit virtual event ideas, but not for long!
      • If you have any Cyan related costumes, you can record a pair of videos of yourself before and after putting on the costume, and they will be edited together into a video to be played during the convention.
      • The T-shirt store is open for preorders: the T-shirts have the new “2020 2021” logo, and designs from Squee (front) and Shoom’lah (back). $2 from every T-shirt sold will be donated to Campaign Zero and Gameheads, equally. If you would like to make your own donations, the Committee has some recommendations.
      • There will be a virtual Open Mic Night: you can send song parodies, poetry, skits, and anything else you can come up with, until July 20, and they will be strung together and played during the virtual Mysterium.

    • The Mysterium Committee has announced that there will not be an in-person convention in August this year. However, some form of online gathering is still being planned. Refunds will be available, but also will roll-overs to next year’s in-person convention. More details will be announced soon.
    • realMyst: Masterpiece Edition has been released for the Nintendo Switch on Thursday 21, with a 20% discount for a limited time. To celebrate the launch, the Cyan Store is also having a 20% discount on all merch. GrayDragon is also giving away a few codes on the Cyan Discord server.
    • There will be a MOULa server downtime on Wednesday 27, starting at 11:00 KIT. The update has lots of under the hood changes, but also includes the long awaited fix for the Windows 10 mouse bug from the GoW.
    • Episode 10 of The Lost Art machinima by Mystitech Productions will premiere on Saturday 30 at 14:30 KIT.

    • Gehn.27 is live! This release comes with three new Ages by Doobes, an improved voice chat and a truckload of improvements. Read all about it in our dedicated post. Note that the Vothol Gallery and Fehnir’s House are no longer on the Nexus, but in… one of the new Ages.
    • The fourth Age in the Secret of the Rainbow series by Jhon J. Jaguar, Somahoglahn, was released on the Deep Island shard. You can find tips on how to set a client up in our guide.
    •  Hotel reservations and T-shirt designs for Mysterium 2020 are now available: the Westin Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, VA. Registrations are open with a $5 discount from now until May 31.
    • Submissions for events, enamel pins, activity book pages, as well as writing and artwork, are still open but will end soon.
